If You Sew, How Much Would You Charge?

Question

to make a long skirt 3 yards (with fabric& buttons provided) and necessary materials. I provide all materials.

Fabric is rayon.

I would estimate my time at $12 to $15 an hour and my expenses, then total those. I would round up to the nearest $5.

make it about 5 - 10 dollars more than you spent on it. if you spent 20, make it about 25- 30 dollars. or even 40, if it's a really nice skirt!

actually, probably you should make it 15 dollars for labor, and then add what you spent, and if you dont think that you'll make enough, throw a couple dollars onto it. somebody will buy it!

I would probably charge between 10 and 20 dollars, depending on how difficult the pattern is.

it would really depend on how involved the pattern; simple and easy........and providing everything I need to make it...$40.

a more detailed and time involved pattern........$50 to $60.

It may be cheaper to buy it ready made.  And it could be more if the fabric is $20 a yd.....I don't know how expensive the fabric is you are using..........you did say you are providing everything needed to make it plus your time ............

I charge between £12 and £15 for basic sewing, like seams, and up to £25 for hand work such as pad stitching and beading.  The amount charged for a complete garment depends on the amount of work involved.  Some fabrics are a lot more difficult to deal with than others, and I also take that into account.  I also have to take into account the amount of fitting time needed: people with difficult fitting issues take up more of my time and need to pay for that time.

How much a dressmaker/ tailor charges also depends on their skill level, and where they are.
