can you still buy life insurance for yourself putting nephew as the beneficiary?

Or will the state collect the insurance from me when I pass on?

  1. Life insurance passes outside of your estate, so the state can't attach money your nephew is given by the insurance company.

Having said that, depending on what type of disability you have, and your age, life insurance could likely be cost prohibitive.  If money is no object, and you can pay thousands of dollars a month, go for it.
