Assuming that you were not trying to hide from people you loved and cared about, straight to them is where i would go.  Friends are the most valuable earth asset we can have.

The pristine forests of northern Maine. With a tarp, a lighter, a knife, and some knowledge, you could make a pretty peaceful life for yourself up there.

Alternatively, a big city, preferably NYC, where you could get lost in the crowd.

I'd hide in a cave behind a waterfall. A big one that no one knows about and live off the land... But I'd totally build the cave up so it's livable... a bookshelf with books, my guitar, maybe a rug.

EDIT: Actually, I'd head to the mountains, somewhere along the Appalachian Trail.  It would be very easy to disappear into the woods, and there are cabins and/or lean to's scattered about near the trail for shelter. Lots of caves in the area. Perfect.
