  1. Always get the insurance company involved if the accident is somewhat serious. The one time i didnt was when a guy backed into my bumper because it was cheaper to just get it fixed and buffed out and repainted by the person to pay it than having the insurance company's getting involved, plus the person was fairly intelligent, but I still got there insurance info just in case. But if its more than a scratch call the insurance because body work isn't cheap and it will usually be cheaper to pay the deductible and its good to have there info just in case if they end up being irresponsible and not a good person. If they are at fault have them write out on a piece of paper that they were at fault and have them sign it so you can win if they deny it in the future.

  2. Definitely get the insurance company involved, even if it's your fault. It will cost you less in the long run.

It might be hard not to feel sorry for the other party, but don't fall for a sob story from someone who wants to avoid their responsibility.

  3. they only reason she doesnt want her insurance company involed is because theyre at falult and they dont want there premium to go up. get them involed now its for you own good that person is shady

  4. You need your insurance involved if you are not at fault. If they pay for the repairs you are ok, but what if they dont?? You have to go through the insurance then.

  5. this is never a good idea.  ALWAYS get the insurance involved.

you don't say who hit who or  what happened but lest say you were at fault. they get an estimate and you pay it.  you also owe for a rental vehicle.  what if there's more damages when the car goes in the shop.  do you even know how to read an estimate cuase it's a lot more than looking at the estimate and literrally reading it.  you're not trained to tell if its a good estimate or a crappy estimae.  Also in most states a party has 2 years to file an injury claim.   that means 1 day and 364 days later you can be sued for injuries and not have anything to stand on.  This is way to risky.

Second scenario is that you were not at fault.  I guarantee you what they thing was a $500 ding will be a $1500 ding at the body shop and that's not including a rental.  Every day i get calls from people stating that they could just pop that out for $100.  meanwhile I'm looking at a $1500 estimate trying to explain to them why car repairs are so expensive.

You should exchange info and report it to each otherss insurance company.  If you are not at fault and you have a fairly decent auto  company then this should  not  count against you and not affect your rates.  Despite popular belief most insurance comany ony raise rates for at fault losses and poor driving or claims history.  of course there is the occasional economic rate increase as well.

I hope this helps.  good luck.

  6. You need to have your Insurance Company involved in order to protect yourself.  What if the person turns it around and says it's your fault?
