If a 17 year old graduates highschool before he turns 18 can he legally leave home and live and do what ever he wants without getting in trouble with the law? Cause my BF is graduating highschool in less than 3 months and is only 17 and wants to move out of his house asap. His Step Dad is physically abusive. Oh and he lives in IL.

Thankyou

  1. no they can call the cops on you and have you back home. your boyfriend should tell someone with authority to take action with his stepdad. otherwise, he has to wait till he's 18 to move out. you wouldn't want him to leave his house, get caught after his parents call the cops, and have his step dad beat him up even more..

  2. woohoo!! going to be 17 for 010 my graduating year, so ty for asking this XD

and yes in illinois 2 :)

  3. If he can provide a stable living for himself, get a good job and can fully stand on his own two feet, find a roof to put over his head, then I don't see why not. I graduated high school at the age of 16, but I still live with my mum, I'll be leaving to college soon though.

  4. you dont have to be 18 or 17... you can be signed out by your parents when your as young as 16

  5. check out if there are laws like this one curfew law here in CA (if 17 or under is out past 10pm they are arrested unless they are with an adult). and they dont care if your a minute before 18. other than that, i don't really know

  6. If you get a legal guardian to sign a reel ease form then yes this is possible.you have to get a parents signature, so if his mom will sign it because she is a bold guardian then it is legal.

my friend wanted to leave home to go live with her sister and she did this same process.

he could fight it in court if he chose to, or he could just run away to your house everyday lol.

    good luck.

  7. No

  8. i mean you could leave your home at anytime. the only problem is that since he's only 17 (graduated high school or not) his parents could report him as missing or a runaway and could get in trouble with the law. but if he's going to college then there's not problem. but if he's just moving out just to move out then no, legally he cannot leave his home.
