If a Christian says, "The Old Testament is a bunch of junk" why then use it to try and legitimize Jesus?

Or use it as proof that it connects? Or have it if you think it's irrelevant?

Or refer to it at all if all it is is junk? Why not just cut it in half and begin with Matthew?

  1. none of it is junk. the old testament is the Jewish law but it's also a good reference.

  2. No real Christian would say that because provides the basis for identifying the Messiah.

  3. You wouldn't understand, you don't believe in Jesus.

  4. It is not a bunch of junk, it is the first covenant from God, the new testament is the second covenant from God that replaces the first. Jesus explains this in the new testament. Jesus refers to many things in the old testament and the old testament predicts many things about Jesus, proving he is real.

  5. that Christian is just being rude. Most Christians think the OT is our book and don't realize we use a more accurate translation the Tanakh. But I think that Most Christians just never were told that.

  6. That fact that no TRUE Christian I know believes the old testament to be junk ( that I am aware of) invalidates your question.. God bless you !

  7. what would they do if they didn't have the story of Sodom and the book of Leviticus to harass homosexuals with?

They can't just throw it out.

  8. no Christian who really understands Christianity should believe that the old testament is junk. As you say, such a position leads to absurdity.

  9. No Christian claims that the old testament is junk. The old testament is the history of the Jewish people....in otherwords, the people from whom Christ came. We simply state that Christ fulfilled the prophecies relating to his birth, ministry, and death, and gave two basic commands that are the combinationn of the ten commandments. The old obedience/punishment laws have been ended through the sacrifice of Christ for those sins.

  10. "FOOL!"

  11. that is a very interesting statement from some Christians. these might have figured out that the old testament and the new testament do not really belong to the same religion. hence Jesus has no context and is not really the Messiah

  12. We don't.

  13. Its the circle of Christian logic.  It is believed that as the circumference increases so does the credibility.

  14. The Old Testament is what leads to Jesus.

  15. Dude, if you take away their Buybull, what would they have?  As you said, if all questions are answered with the Buybull, not having that would make it a bit harder for the bunch.  Besides, what would they thump at your door on Sunday mornings, The Enquirer?

  16. Which Christians say that the Old Testament is a "bunch of junk?" Catholics have an Old Testament reading at every mass and most Protestants dwell in the Old Testament more than in the New one.
