  2. Average acceleration (not instantaneous) is simply the change in velocity divided by the change in time.  Your velocity will need to be in meters per second and your time in seconds in order to get a result of meters per second squared.

    Change in velocity is (60MPH - 0MPH = 60).  In m/s this is 26.8224.  Change in velocity is therefore 26.8224 m/s.  Divide by change in time (4.8) and you get the result 5.588 m/s squared.
