I found a Geo Metro, its a 1995 and only has 65,000 miles on it. The engine and transmission are fine, it runs great. Looks good. Should I be worried about the age?

  1. no i wouldn't worry about the age on it,those was good little cars if they had been taken care of,and one with low miles on it would be alright, the only thing about those you had to watch was they leaked oil from the front seal and that cost lot of people an engine, that and if they lost enough coolant it would ruin the engine from getting it to hot, they usually was considered throw away cars, but for what they was they was cheap to operate, have it checked if you really are interested in it,make sure its got no hidden problems ,good luck.

  2. People think of year and miles as some magic indicator.

No.  At that level, you can only tell IF you take it to a mechanic and get it inspected.

I have a 94 Civic with 187K miles and the engine and tranny runs like new (and rock solid).  But there are other 94 Civic out there that runs like c**p.  So as a buyer how would you know by LOOKING at it?

    You don't.  The mechanic will.

    Good Luck...

  3. If it is cheap it might worth buying.

  4. Sometimes with older cars low milage is a bad thing, it could mean the car has been sitting which could hurt it more than having it running, but with a 95 i would not be worried. Also dont wast time and money on a tune up, do it yourself for half the price. Changing oil is a piece of cake (unscrew the bolt on the oil pan and drain into a bucket or pan, refill oil with a few quarts you can buy at any gas station) sparkplugs, even easier... take the only ones out with a socket wrench and put the new ones in, changing the air filter...take the old one out put a new one in...easy...you get the point.

  5. IF YOU HAVE A GOOD MECH THAT YOU TRUST HAVE HIM CHECK IT OUT   IF ALL IS GOOD NO WORRYS ON THE CAR   IF A CAR HAS GOOD CARE  YOU  CANT GO WRONG    JUST MAKE SURE MECH IS ABLE TO CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS    AND TAKE HIS WORD ONLY IF YOU KNOW HIM AND TRUST HIM    HE IS HUMAN AND CAN MAKE MISTAKES   BUT THE BIG ITEMS TO GO WRONG  WILL BE FOUND    REST EASY ON THE YEAR   MY NEIGHBOR WANTED A OLDER CAR FOUND HER ONE WITH 165000  AND IT CHECK OUT GREAT SHE HAS DRIVEN IT ANOTHER 50,000 WITH ONLY ONE TUNE UP AND ONE COIL AND HEATER BLOWER MOTOR  SHES GETTING 28 MPG ON THIS RIG  IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF BY A MECH AND IT WAS HIS WIFES CAR  ALL IS GOOD  SHE IS HAPPY   WITH IT     PAINT NEEDS HELP BUT ALL MECH IS GOOD   SEE YA BEST OF LUCK  JFB

  6. it is junk!

  7. 65,000 miles is really good for a car that age (I have a 2001 VW Jetta with 110,000 miles).  If everything seems to be working well, then it is definitely worth it because the Geos were well-made cars, but just to be safe you should spend the money on a vehicle history report from Carfax.com before you hand over the money, as the report will tell you if the car has ever been in an accident, flood, etc.  It's $24.99, but definitely worth it.  Hope this helps.
