It depends on the issuer of the card, some cards are valid up to 8 years after they are issued.

It REALLY varies, a lot.  It depends on the creditor, the person, the offer, and the overall situation.

I update credit card information from expired cards to new ones at least 20 times a day at work-- and I see the expiration dates varying greatly.  The shortest I've seen was an expiration date 2 years from the issue date, and the longest I've seen was an expiration 8 years later.

I would say that they got their credit card no later than 2008... but... being that year, it goes without saying.
