If a bank's computer system crashes, can you still draw money?

I can't draw money from a card I use regularly (once a month). I got the card from another country of which I'm a citizen. When I try to draw money, I get a message saying that the card issuer is unavailable. Could the bank's system have crashed? Please help. I'm desperate.

  1. I've never heard of a bank's computers crashing here because I assume they'd have backup systems for something that important but I guess it is possible.

I'd try calling the bank because only they will be able to give you a definite answer on what's going on.

You could try a different ATM like someone else suggested but I doubt it will make a difference because all ATMs will just be accessing your banks database anyway.

  2. It is certainly possible.  Have you tried calling the bank?

  3. you should be able to go to a different bank you may get a atm charge but if you need the money then thats really the only choice

  4. It could have crashed. This happened to my bank a few months ago and ALL the cards were rendered inactive until someone came in the next morning andfixed the problem with the computer. :( Can you call your bank to see what's happening?

    Good luck. :)

  5. there are two possibilities:

    1. your bank system might be crashed.but this is going to be temporary problem. The bank definitely have more copies their customer details in different place. so your service should be available in few hours or in few days.

    2. there is a chance to crash in local bank system where you currently staying. so it could not recognize your card details.

......wait for one or two days.....
