  1. Most of modern blimp (or zepplines) are made of thick teflon-like material that are resistant to rips.  However, if it is shot, there will be hole (obviously).

However, it will NOT pop like a ballon. It is because in order to pop, the surface of the blimp must be weak enough to rip due to the pressure difference between the gas inside and outer atmosphere. So when balloons pop, we hear the sound of popping because inner gas is "ripping out" towards outer area.

Since blimp's surface is made out of strong teflon-like material, it will not rip that easily, but it will lose the boyancy, and it will simply sink slowly towards the ground as it loses the gas inside the balloon.

So don't shoot the blimps please, it is very expensive to fix :)

  2. no, there is no pressure inside a blimp like in a balloon, it is just a void filled with a gas that is lighter than the air surrounding it.

If you shot a blimp filled with helium, it wouldn't probably even notice it, maybe fall from the sky after many hours as the helium slowly leaked out from the small bullet hole, if you shot it into a hot air balloon then nothing would really happen, cause it can supply the hot air as long as it has fuel

edit: to the last guy who answered, bs.

It's not inflated with "considerable pressure"

A blimp is inflated barely over outside pressure, actually less than one psi above the ambient air... So no popping, just fizzing, no matter the shell...

  3. No. The whole balloon (like what you get at a party) explodes/implodes (deepening) and all of the gas is released. A Blimp shan't do the same as it is made out of far more durable material than a cheep balloon. lol.

    I hope this never happens...

  4. No.  It will just leak (slowly).  The pressure inside blimps isn't very great.

  5. All of the other answers are wrong.  There is enough pressure inside a blimp to keep it inflated to normal shape, which is quite a bit of pressure.  (About 1/2 atm. relative to the atmosphere, or 22-24 pounds per square inch.)

The answer is that it depends on what you shoot it with.  If you hit one with a 70MM howitzer shell, it will POP!!  That is, it will burst with considerable force.  If you hit it with a NATO .223, it will just leak slowly, and it will take several hour for the deflation to become significant.
