  1. Have the "current owner" give you the signed over title when you pay for the car.  If all you got was a bill of sale, how do you know who the current owner is?  Registration alone would not tell you if there are is a lien on the vehicle (loan), or could differ from the owner (lease company, relative, etc.).

  2. You don't.  Only the PERSON ON THE TITLE, can request a replacement title.

Given that the seller does NOT have a title, the person selling is probably NOT on the title and he/she is NOT the LEGAL OWNER.

Title = certificate of ownership.  No title = no ownership.

Anybody can just print up a bill of sale, including a car thief.

Stay away from this car.  It is nothing but trouble.  There are tons of other cars out there.

    Good Luck....

  3. THE OWNER has to go to the DMV and if they really "own it" then they can get themselves a replacement title...

or of you BOTH go to the DMV, and they can prove they own it, then they can  transfer the title to you right there.

  4. You have to take the bill of sale to the tag office and apply for a title you will also need car insurance info for that car and a valid drivers license. they will mail you your title. Thats how it works in Gerogia I went through that process a few monthes ago.

  5. You cannot get a title with only a bill of sale.  The seller of the car must provide the buyer with a merchantable title.  If he can't do that, I would never, ever give him a red cent because you will never legally own the vehicle
