If a car is bought on finance,can it be taken out the country?

i bought my car on finance and would like to drive round europe,would this be allowed, i have not paid it all off yet? i got the car 2 years ago

  1. Yes, as long as you're not planning to emigrate with it, you can certainly tour Europe.


  2. Yes, as long as you have the proper insurance and breakdown cover.

  3. Ask the finance company - they own the car until you have made the final payment, you are only the registered keeper until then.

    However if you want to travel in the EU I don't think there should be a problem.

  4. You should really ask the finance company before you take your car out of the country.  If you are up to date with your payments then they shouldn't have any problem with it.

    However, plenty of people do take there cars on holiday without informing the finance company - me included and i've never had any problems.  I suppose a problem could arise if customs suspects the car is stolen or something and runs checks but there is no reason to think this would happen if you are the registered keeper
