the only way to roll gently off a vertical cliff is if it free falls. then...velocity=acceleration x time..time (sec)=8500 m/hr / 9.81 m^2 /sec / 3600 sec/hr

85 (km / hr) = 23.61 m / s

v/g=time

g=9.8 m/s^2

23.61/9.8 = 2.41 seconds
