Or a little bit of both? My cat does all three whenever I am petting her so I'm not sure whether to continue or stop lol.

  1. Your cat is very secure and content.

  2. Swishing the tail is a sign of devotion and recognition in a cat. Purring is a sign that tells you want ever you are doing is fantastic and kneading is a stretching exercise that also tells you , " I'm a Happy cat."  If you have a cat that does all three you have a very special cat that loves you and the cat wants you to know that fact. These traits slowly disappear in older cats. I have seen this is only a few cats where it was agitated with the touching. It was a catch 22 with the cats because they loved the feeling of a gentle rub over the body but on the other hand did not like to be held or touched.  I noticed this behavior and by doing a little before a meal changed the behavior of the cat  to hold me, rub me, love me, feed me and I will think about loving you.  Over time the cat finally came to understand that touching was o.k. to experience. Outside cats sometimes have a problem with being rubbed so they allow the touching , fighting the " I'm a wild Cat and I am the provider; but the rubbing does feel good". Slowly doing a little and stopping shows that you only want the cat to feel good. These three traits are also signs of healing and are like the " mantra " of the cat. They are also used as a stress reliever somewhat like yoga and sound. Kittens purr when nursing, Cats purr when giving birth, cats purr when going to sleep so the purring could be a sign of contentment and bliss. One book I read said that when the cat purrs it is vibrating muscles in the throat which may be a relaxing exercise. Try rubbing the cat at different times of the day to see if these traits are triggered by time of day, before meals, first thing when the cat sees you or before sleep. These signs show that the cat is happy and wants you to do it again. Try rubbing under the chin, under the legs, over the belly, over the behind. Cats are very independent . They fight being touched but with care and a little at a time most come to enjoy the sensations that are overwhelming to the cat. Your cat is telling you a life  story and we must figure it out . Your cat is in heaven so keep up the great loving.

  3. I was always told that a cat's tail is a measure of what they are thinking. For example, if the tail is swishing from side to side then they are weighing up two different options, like "Shall I stay here or shall I go over there" or "Do I like this or not" or "Can I beat this opponent or shall I run away" This always seems to have been the case with my cats anyway.

If she is on your lap and purring and kneading then she would be happy and contented, but maybe the tail swish is a sign that something is making her think. Maybe she likes being on your lap but is not keen on the way you are petting her, or maybe she loves the way she is being petted but is sat in an uncomfortable position.

Next time she does it try changing one of the things that is happening, like petting her in a different way or stop stroking her. You should be able to work out what she likes and what she's not so keen on.

Part of the pleasure of having animals as pets is to try to work out what is going on in their little furry heads. Best of luck!

  4. well, if she bites you, you'll know.  if the ears go back, you'll know.  if the ears are normal, she's happy.

  5. she's happy =D

  6. You lucky one. You have a very loving cat.
