Let's say a 5-6 year old is sexually abused before reaching puberty and her hymen is damaged, does her hymen get back to normal after reaching puberty or does it stay damaged? And how can one know if the hymen is still there or gone?

Where I live, whenever I search the internet looking for information about the hymen, the website would be blocked even if it's purely medical. I really need to know. Thanks a lot.

  1. Said child's hymen would probably stay damaged. It's not a big deal or anything though. What/why do you want to know this?

  2. The hymen is just a thin little piece of skin.  If it's stretched or torn, it doesn't grow back.  However, bits of the hymen may remain until a woman gives birth to a baby.

The hymen is right at the entrance to the v****a, and a girl can look at her own using a mirror.  You need to kind of spread your vaginal lips open to get a good look at it, though.

There are all different kinds of ways a hymen can look, there isn't just one normal way.  Nearly all hymens naturally have one or more holes in them, otherwise when a girl had her period the blood wouldn't be able to come out.  Lots of things can cause the hymen to stretch or tear, like using tampons, riding a horse or a bike, or even dancing.  A girl's hymen may be torn several times in her life, and she may not even notice.

No one, not even a doctor, would be able to tell just by looking at her hymen if a girl had been sexually abused as a young child or if her hymen had been torn in some other way.

  3. Once its gone its gone.  If its just stretched, it may still be there and as you grow may look somewhat normal again.  Most girls have at least some damage to their hymen from sports before they loose it to s*x or tampons.  So, its pretty normal to not have a hymen at all, even if you have never had s*x or been abused.

  4. If hymen was damaged before puberty - it will stay damaged. I am sorry but it is a true. But there is a surgical procedure that can repair the hymen so that it is intact. The procedure, known as hymenoplasty, has become a popular procedure for some females. Read more below

  5. only 2 out of 3 girls are even born with hymens, and 80% of those break before the first time they have s*x anyway, so it's really nothing to lose sleep over. Hymens are highly over rated imo. If you live in a country where websites like that are blocked, you probably live in a cultural that places a ridiculous amount of importance on hymens. In 1st world developed nations, hymens are fairly trivial.
