There is a 1 year old chinchilla at my local petstore.

I really want him, but is it wise to get a chinchilla that old?

Or do I need to wait for a baby?

  1. I don't see why not. Chinchillas live to be 10-15 years old if cared for properly, so you'd still have a lot of time with him. Ask to hold him and see how his temperament is before you buy him. It's OK if he's a bit skittish, most pet store animals are, but make sure he's not an aggressive biter or more than you can handle. But other than that, it's fine!

Have you checked petfinder.com & craigslist.com, too? They have lots of animals who need to be adopted, perhaps you'll find one there.

  2. 1 year old chinchilla is fine.

i recently got a 3-4month old chinchilla and it doesn't require any special needs
