  1. ya its a monocot...

  2. Coconut is a monocot. It has a stem.

  3. It is a monocot tree.

A member of the Arecaceae, or palm family

  4. I always thought it had a trunk.

    I dont know.

It is kind of confusing, like pinapple trees/bushes.

    Such confussion.

  5. I don't see why being monocots means palms can't sensibly be called trees.  There isn't a botanical classification restricting the term 'tree' to members of a particular natural taxon, as far as I'm aware.  Trees have long been defined as woody plants, and palm trees qualify excellently.

Some lunatic somewhere may want to restrict the usage of 'tree' to a partiuclar clade, but I think the rest of us would do well to remain at a safe distance from them, and certainly not offer them encouragement.

  6. a palm tree is a monocot which means it doesnt not have a vascular cambium and is not capable to secondary growth (can not add girth to it self by cell division). It appears this is not true because the tree appears to have a "trunk" but palm trees actually add girth to themselves by turning its palm fronds woody and adding them around the stem making something of a "trunk" that way. So its really more of a fake or pseudo-trunk if that makes sense.
