If the company I work for goes out of business - are they still entitled to give me my T4 slip? If anything, it'll be bankruptcy - do they still supply the T4? Does the government?

  1. Yes, the trustee in bankruptcy should ensure that a T4 is issued to you. Whether it is supplied to you in a timely manner is another issue though.

  2. Contact the company's trustee in bankruptcy. If you don't know who the trustee is, contact the superintendant of bankruptcies for your region (number in blue pages of phone book) and ask them who the trustee is. You should be able to get the information. Bankruptcy is a public process in Canada.

Otherwise, and this process is much simpler, contact the revenue agency. Whenever you get a copy of a T4 slip, your employer is required to submit one to the CRA. If they have it on file, they can print it and send it to you.
