  1. It is not a secret - due to the large volume of fraud in visa applications, issuing governments routinely verify facts presented during the visa application process.  Phone calls are made to homes and offices, and embassy staff will even make personal visits to neighborhoods.  Repercussions for lying on visa applications include being barred from future visas, and having your information turned over to your own government and/or the host government in whose country you applied.  Basically, if you think you have to lie in order to qualify for a visa, you should not apply for a visa.

  2. If you apply visa and they usually asked for reference letter from your work if you are an employee. they will call your boss about you,how long you work and sometimes they will ask about your salary, in case that reference letter not tell the right information. They also will check your address and you do must give information about your bank account. Embassy wanna know how  long you have that bank account and is that active account or not. All this to find out who is the visa applicants. If the visa applicants had job, bank account and families  then visa applicants will be back not overstaying in their country.
