There was a story about a blind woman being tasered. She said she was on the defensive because a person said they were the cops before and robbed her. So my question is, how would a blind person know that a cop is really a cop other than just taking their word for it?

  1. what you do is do not open the door but tell the officer that you are blind and cannot see the badge and that you are going to call 911 to confirm that there is indeed an officer at your door, the police have a standard procedure to allow you to do this very thing if you are unsure, and if they are real police they are supposed to respect that and allow you to call,, it helps to tell the officers what you are doing every step of the way and hopefully you have a portable phone or cell phone so you can stay near the door and or window so that they can see that you are not trying to do anything you are not supposed to do, and you could also have your address listed with the police department as occupied by a blind person

  2. If the person at the door in a real police officer they will wait while the person inside calls the police station (911)  to confirm their identity...

My great aunt is blind, she has a telephone right next to her front door, when someone comes to the door and she doubts their identity she telephones to get them identified...

For instance recently she had pizza delivered the delivery person arrived she telephoned the resturant and had them confirm the name of the driver for her...    Then she had the driver confirm her order...

When the police or other official has come to the door she telephone to confirm they are really who they say they are...

She also has neighbors on speed dial she telephones to visually confirm people at the door for her...

  3. Well look up some police codes and ask them those questions if you're blind. They'll also say in stern words "this is the (city name) police, please answer the door." I think...so listen for dishonesty in their voices if they're really robbers

  4. You would know when they started beating on you and tasering you.

  5. Call the station and confirm they had been dispatched to my house.

Or if I could, call a neighbor and have them check for me.
