Question:

If a credit card account number is changed to protect against fraud, does that affect a credit score?

There were no fraudulent charges made, but I changed the number proactively. The credit card company closed the current account and opened a new one for me, and transferred the existing charges. I wonder if it looks like a "new" account, even though the history goes back several years. Does this affect a credit score?

  1. No, it will not affect to your credit score earned so far. My suggestion is to wait for next Credit card statement, if you find your score is as it is the its OK. If not then yo can contact to customer care, nowadays these people have become vety customer oriented.

  2. Not at all...it's not a new account number it's simply a new card number. Very similar to a debit card....if you lost your debit card you'd just get another one but your bank account number would remain the same. In order for it to show as a new account, you would have to actually apply for a card.
