I am starting college this August as a Freshman majoring in Pre-Dentistry. I am considering going to Florida for my final four years (graduate school) to get my D.D.S. Now, after becoming licensed in the State of Florida to practice dentistry, if I were to move to say the West Coast, would I have to take another exam to practice in that particular state?

  1. You would need to apply for a license in each state that you wish to practice.  I don't think you would need to take another exam for dentistry, just complete the paperwork, provide verifications of your training and education, liability insurance and history, etc.

  2. If you move out of the state that your license is in then you will have to fill out some paper work and possibly take a test.  It depends on where you move.

  3. Every state that you move to will have their own requirements for licensure.  You should be able to apply and recieve and active license in each state that you move to.  Usually it is not a problem - consisting of filling out their paper work, paying for the license in that state, and meeting their requirements.   They will check your current license to make sure there are no restrictions,  check where you graduated from and most likely your board exam results.  I very much doubt that you'd have to take another exam - unless your initial results were less then what the new state requires for licensure.

You can look on alot of State's requirements by going on a State's website - they go to professional licensure and read on what their process is.

  4. ~~Any medical license has to meet the requirements of each state. Most of the time you will need to take exams or whatever is required to get a license in a different state.~~
