Does the hospital contact the police to go to the surviving family members home with the news? Do the police send them to the hospital w/o saying saying else? Who tells them at the hospital?

  1. Law enforcement will contact the next of kin.  Shack up honeys don't really count as next of kin here.

Or, they'll keep the body in the Morgue, and family will come identify the body if they have a loved one that turned up missing that fits that description.

  2. It depends on a number of factors. Different policies in different places.

News of an accidental death is not usually given over the phone. There are exceptions.

I was a sheriff in Georgia.

Someone killed in an auto accident would already have police involvement. A call would be made from the ER to the family home and the family told "John Smith has been in an accident and is in the ER" if it was a local family.

If the family was not local, and no one could be reached by phone, law enforcement was notified, and an officer would go to the home and ask them to contact the hospital.

    Hope this helps.

  3. .   If the accident didn't involve the police, the hospital will notify the next of kin.  THey use cell phones and look in the address book for Mom. They don't make you rush to the hospital for a deceased person.

  4. most of the time, I think a police officer will come to your home and let you know that there has been an accident.. If you have to go to the hospital, then the doctor usually tells the family...
