So if a glass cup gets chipped on the inside, or a tough dishwashing detergent that is very abrasive tears it up pretty bad, or something else damages the interior of the glass, is it still plenty safe to drink from? Glass isn't going to leach anything harmful, right?

  1. No but toss it anyway.  Glass that chipped has failed and could break when being used.

  2. It won't leach anything. Glass is glass. Same all the way through. As for throwing it away, that's a judgment call. A small chip, or scratch from the dishwasher does not warrant throwing out the glass. However, if it's pretty smashed up, recycle it.

  3. It isn't going to leach anything harmful, but since it's damaged your running the risk of it shattering on you. I have a summer job at a restaurant and know this first hand. I had a damaged coffee pot shatter on me and almost scald me and a customer.

  4. Glass isn't porous, so it won't leach anything into your drink, unless your dishwashing detergent didn't rinse out well enough. You should be safe.

  5. ONLY IF THERE'S A HAIRLINE CRACK TO THE OUTER SURFACE.

  6. It's glass.  What exactly do you think is in there?  I think the constant bombardment of fear in all forms of media are starting to have some very serious effects on people.
