the text book did not explain that really well.... so, can someone explain that?

  1. The answer in heat (not energy) is:

      

          (23-5) x 1 = 18 calories  


  2. What you need to know is the temperature difference which is obviously 23-5 = 18 degrees K (or C)

    Then you need to know the specific heat capacity of water which is 4.2J/g/K

    so 18K*1g*4.2J/g/K=75.24J
