If a gravatational pull is stronger, would the magnatic be altered as well?

Even though I know a magnetic field does not have to exsist with gravity, does gravity have any sort of effect on the magnetic field. Like if Earth had a stronger pull, would that effect the magetic field?

Also, is there anything else that could make a magnetic field more powerful?

  1. There are, in physics, a small set of constants that define the most important characteristics of the universe.

    These include constants that tell us how relatively "strong" the four forces are, including gravity and electromagnetism. Electromagnetism is vastly stronger.

    If we imagine for a moment that the constant controlling the strength of gravity were "turned up", the earth would undergo a catastrophic rearrangement. The flow of the molten inner core which produces the magnetic field around the earth would be disturbed, possibly destroyed. However, there would be no direct effect on the force of electromagnetism, only on a few large scale examples of its interactions with gravity (such as the Earth's core, or the Sun's magnetic field).

    A magnetic field is produced when electrical current is moving. You can increase the strength of the field by cuasing more particles to flow, or by causing them to flow faster.


  2. No.  Gravity and magnetism are two separate forces (they are actually two of the four fundamental forces in nature).  Gravity is by far the weaker.

  3. The Earth's magnetic field appears to be created by vortex circulation (swirling of molten metal) between the inner mantle and the outer core.

    The two do not spin at exactly the same rate (the core is a tiny bit faster than the mantle) so that the "slippage" causes a swirling of the matter between the two.

    If Earth's gravity was greater, then there might be more friction between the mantle and the outer core.  That would affect the amount and speed of swirling, and this would have given us a different magnetic field.

    However, I do not know if more gravity gives a stronger magnetic field or if it gives a weaker magnetic field.  The main reason is that we are not completely sure how the field is formed.
