  1. no if the woman had rh - blood and the man had rh+ she would just get a RhoGAM shot at about 28 weeks and then when the baby is born and  if it's rh+ the mother is given an other RhoGAM shot with in 48 hours

  2. Good question. My mom is AB- and my dad is O+ and she had to get a couple of extra shots during her pregnancy. I don't think it is the same if it is the other way around. I think it is only if the woman is negative.

Edit~ BPS is right... she worded it so much better than me!

  3. The only time blood type matters is when the mother is RH - and the father is RH +.  It is not really a concern then, either-the mother will just need a Rhogam injection at about 28 weeks, and then another following the delivery if the baby's blood type is RH +.

It does not matter whether the father is A, B, AB, or O and any combination of a woman with A, B, AB, or O.  The only thing that matters is the RH factor (the + or -), and again-the only concern is when the mother is  -.

The concern is that if the baby's blood was + entered the mother's bloodstream during delivery, her body would start producing antibodies.  It would not be a danger to that baby, but any future pregnancies would be "attacked" if the baby was +.

    I hope this helps.

  4. Hi,

First of all it doesn't matter what blood type each of you has you are completely compatible to have a child. Each blood type is actually made up of two letters and the child receives one letter from each parent.

Blood Type A = AA or AO

Blood Type B = BB or BO

    Blood Type O = OO

    Blood Type AB = AB

So if you are O negative your blood type actually looks like this: OO-

and If your girlfriend is O positive her blood type actually looks like this OO+.

Your child will receive one O from each of you, so you know that the child will have an O blood type.

    .

The Positive and Negative aspect, refers to a protein known as the RH protein. You would only have a problem if your girlfriend was the one who was negative and you were the one who was positive. What happens is the father passes the RH protein on to the baby making the baby positive. At some point during the pregnancy the babies blood mixes with the mothers blood and because the mother is negative for the protein her body begins to attack the baby and treat it as a foreign object because it doesn't recognize the protein.

As long as the women is positive for the RH protein you will have no compatibility issues.

    Hope this helps

    Good Luck

  5. No

It is only if the guy is positive and the female negative because there is a high chance that the baby will be positive. Thus, the female's body will produce what are called 'antibodies' against the positive factor in the blood, since she does not have positive factors on her blood cells. In this case, the female will receive something called Rho-gam midway through the pregnancy.

Since in your case, it is the male who is negative, this is not a problem!

  6. If you have O- there is no way to really be sure a child of yours will be O+ because even if you get with an O+ woman to have a child then may still get your -.  It won't cause any problems though with pregnancy no.
