  3. Depends how they are slanted.  If he just has them back a bit, could mean he's irritated with whatever is going on such as you trying to put on his halter, etc.  If his ears are pinned back, he's very angry and it would be a good idea to get out of there.

It depends on how far back they're slanted.  Just a bit, it means he's listening to his rider or something behind him....back halfway, he may be nervous, pinned to the neck, he's p.o.'d.  And are they twitching back and forth...that's usually nervousness, or a commotion he's listening to.  And look at his other body language too....is he tense or relaxed?
