  1. something is  not right if his ears are pinned back he is either frightened or something is makeing him un comfortable horses are pretty easy to read there emotions you can tell if there is something wrong if you dont know what your doing you could be getting yourself into a dangerous situation

  2. when a horse slats his ears backwards usually its because he is getting agressive! if you are new for the horse and he is smelling you, he will start pulling his ears backwards coz he doesnt trust you 100% as you are new for him! but when you are riding a horse and he pulls his ears back that means that he is getting bored or if you are riding with other horses, your horse might feel treatened by other horses so he pulls back his ears!

  3. pinned back - angry

slanted back a little - can just be listening to whats behind him or, with my horse, he always slants his ears back a little when he goes to smell me or if he's tired. and sometimes when i put a saddle on his back he gets a little pissed and slants his ears back a bit.

  4. Depends- If they are pinned back (flat on the head)- the horse is angry.

If they are just tilted backwards, he is listening to something behind him (maybe a rider) or could also be sleeping. .

They are usually concentrating on something- the ears swivel to help them "see" their surroundings.
