  1. No. If you are discovered you can be arrested for violating fire safety laws. The reason they don't allow you to have someone on the floor is there could be a fire and people could be trying to run out but then trip over you.

If it is a 4 person capacity and you need to have five people then your only option is to get another room. You can get a connecting room that has a door in between the two rooms.

  2. check in with only four people.

most hotels allow visitors to go into your hotel room.  treat the 5th person as a visitor and that the 5th person 'visit' you after you have all checked in.  better still, let the 5th person wait outside the hotel.  after checking in, leave your bags in your room and you all go out.  when you return, bring the 5th person along. (just make sure that his/her luggage has already been checked in with your group)

hotel staff do not enter rooms just to check the number of people in it.

of course, if there will be free breakfast, it would only be good for 4.

  3. Sure if they don't find out.  Hide the sleeping bag during the day.  NY hotels r very small.  May not have much room on the floor for a bag and you may have to share a towel.

  4. Some hotels will let you and others wont, at the hotel you might be staying in if it is ok for a fifth person they will probably give you a cot. If they dont allow that i am sure there are plenty of hotels in New York that will allow it. Have fun in New York!

  5. At extra cost, yes.

  6. Depending on the hotel, you might not have to bring a sleeping bag.

Talk to the reservation line and ask if they place roll away cots in rooms for an extra fee. Most nicer hotels will do this and only charge you for the "person fee". They will provide the pillow and the extra blankets.

Some rooms have sleeper couches or couches that can be used as a bed too. Find out if this option is available.  One of the hotels I've stayed at offered this option for their rooms.

If you stay in an upgraded room / suite / you might be able to sleep more than 4 people.

    Good luck!!!

  7. Capacity is usually based on FIRE LAWS.  Ask you you can add a 5th person on a cot or rollaway.. if not.. then don't do it.

Don't think for a minute that they don't know who is sneaking in additional persons.  Staff sometimes get "perk" for ratting you out.
