  1. bounce back? It's just a matter of timing.

If the position is common, then yeah, I think it won't be hard to find a replacement a.s.a.p, so bounce back rate is quite fast. There are alot of temporary agencies who are working on filling these holes for short term before the real "replacement" comes along.

But if the position is ... let's say... niche, then, no, I don't think they can really bounce back that easily. It might take them couple of months and years (or at all) to get back on track. However, is there anybody who can't be replaced these days? Extremely rare.

From my experience working for a major Fortune500 company. I have an employer (boss) who thinks everyone is dispensable. Turnover rate is high since management is just plain horrible. But yeah, when someone major quit the company, we then ended up with some unfinished business which caused internal problems, but aren't big enough to cause so much damage to the company overall. Eventually, a new recruit come in anyway.

  2. It depends on how difficult it is for the company to find a replacement, based on the persons skills and knowledge of the business.
