  1. In my family, there are five Johns.  The first was just John, the second, rather than being John Jr. was John II.  My cousin is John V.  I am thinking the third is III.

  2. The grandson would be a "Third," unless the grandfather had died, in which case the son, formerly "Junior," would become "Senior," and his son would now be known as "Junior."

You only use "II" when you give your child the exact name (first, middle, and last) of another person who is not the child's father, such as a paternal grandfather or uncle.

  3. It is Senior (Sr), Junior (Jr) then the 3rd, 4th and so on....

  4. bailezra is completely correct.

my fatherinlaw is Sr., my husband is Jr., and my son is the Third.

The second is ONLY when you name someone the exact name of a person who is NOT their own father.

Technically, when a person who is the senior dies, the Jr. is supposed to become the Sr., and everyone moves up.  However, speaking from my husband/inlaws/sons experiences this is very confusing with the DMV, social security, etc.  Most people nowadays opt to keep their suffix as if it's part of the name.  For instance, when my father in law passes, legally, my husband will probably choose to remain "Jr." because all of his documents are in that name.

  5. i think hes the 2nd
