If a meal was bad or the service is terrible in a restruant can u just leave?

Uh NO. That would be illegal. If you have already received food or drink and have consumed any part of it, you can be arrested for not paying. If you have a problem, talk to a manager. If it does not resolve it then wait and try to contact an owner or different manager later. You have to pay.

If you watch a movie at a theater, and you hate the movie, I challenge you to demand your money back. I doubt you'll get anywhere.

Not all services operate under the "satisfaction guarantee" slogan. If the staff went through the effort to make your dish AND serve you, you have to compensate them for their work, even if it was unsatisfactory.

if you walk out without explanation, you're just going to look like a ********. or a cheapskate. or both. your server and/or the manager will think you're the one with the problem, and nothing will be done to remedy the situation.

speak (politely) to a manager. if the food is that bad, they aren't going to make you pay for it.

some times you can just leave or some times you can't leave call the manger and tell them whats wrong .

You can get free food that happend to me befor and i got all the food i wanted that how it is so i would say it is in the middle.

If the service was good and the food sucked don't penalize the waitstaff.

Talking to the manager can do wonders. They typically want to make you happy, and can give discounts or gift certificates.

Customer feedback is very important, and very hard to come by. Many customers are unhappy, but don't say a word, because they think it is not polite, but then the restaurant is not aware of a customer service problem.

But walking out without paying is not an option.

You still need to pay.  If you don't it's considered stealing.  However, sometimes if the food or service is really terrible, you can usually either get discounted or free food.
