If a memory of a traumatic event is remembered years later...?

does the person go through the same emotional process as someone who has just gone through the same experience? I know this question gives way to false memory syndrome. Isn't it possible that without being talked into believing something happened or hypnosis a person can recall traumatic events that happened years ago?

  1. I had a few traumatic events while I was growing up happen to me.I "thought" I forgot about them. But low and behold I didn't.I have PTSD(post traumatic stress syndrome) because of them. For me, yes, the pain and fear is very real.I had to live through them alot till I got professional help.Talk therapy helped me immensely. But I had to come to terms with it myself in the end.Once I did this(?) my trauma became just a fact of my life.I don't have night terrors anymore(well sometimes I still have my nightmares)The reason you didn't remember is because it was your survival at stake. You had to shut down just to make it though the tramtic event.Your memories are returning for alot of different reasons.Your ready to start facing the pain because your more mature, feel more secure, something reminded you of the incident(smell, persons looks, voice, etc),I even had Deja Vu(spelling),among other things. To be very honest it could be a bumpy, painful ride ahead of you.Good luck

  2. I personally went through a traumatic event when I was a child and it has hit me HARD since I am older.  I initially for years and years tried to bury it but it just eats away at you.  I personally think if someone addressed a traumatic situation at the time it would be much better.  I recalled my event on my own and it is now associated with an annual event due to me recalling it at this time so every year at this time I find myself breaking down again and again.
