  1. Yes, there are a few Muslims in our Congress. They did not take the oath of office on a bible.

  2. Of course - there are alternate methods that can be devised and used if necessary.  Otherwise, religion would be a requirement for becoming president, and that is expressly forbidden by the principle of separation of church and state.

  3. I would think he/she would be inaugurated, or sworn in with out it becoming an issue to anyone but the religious fanatics.

  4. I suppose they could raise their hand and take the oath.

That is what is allowed in court.

  5. Even the president has first amendment rights. He could swear in using any religious text he wanted. It's the same as swearing to tell the truth when in court.

  6. Does it matter? Has taking an oath on the bible kept former presidents from from being liars, or kept them from sending off our youth to killing fields or stealing (taxing) our elderly into poverty or kept them faithful to their spouses or being moral citizens? Please!!! You can not run a country and really be a true christian. Sorry.

  7. Separation of Church and State.

There is no rule that any elected official must take the oath of office with his hand on any book, much less the bible.

Besides, since you are referring to Obama, he took his oath of office for the Senate on his family Bible.  He is not a Muslim.

  8. They (whoever inaugurates them) would probably let them be inaugurated on their respective book.

What do they do with people who refuse to swear on the Bible when put into the Senate/ Congress, or in a court room?

  9. Why are these questions always about Islam. The bible is not used in most of the world's religions, many of which are practiced in the U.S., including Buddhism, Hinduism, and Native American religions.  Do you really think people who practice these religions are cannot take an oath of office?

  10. if we elected a Muslim I would want him to swear an oath on what he regards as holy and binding, not by definition of it.

  11. Of course, you dont have to accept the bible to be inaugerated, you have to preach it to make it that far
