    This info is for NSW:

    It's really hard to say what the cost could be because it depends on the style and how long ago they were ordered, also if the owner's chosen the letters and numbers. There are a lot of different plates, so it's impossible to say here.

    The best thing to do is to call the RTA on 13 22 13 with the plate number and they'll check the plate info and let you know the remake cost.

    If the plate is really badly damaged, you could be up for the cost of temporary plates to go on the car while the others are being remade.

    Also you can just save time and money (if the owner's willing) to just replace the plates with a new set ($36 for black on yellow, or $72 for black on white. This is the easier, and cheaper, option.
