If a parent dies do u get money?

ok i know this may be a weird question BUT...

If my dad...whom i have no contact with and lives in another country died would I get anything?

I had a friend of mine whos mother who she never met died and all the sudden she gets a monthly check...when she told me it made me wonder.

  2. Your friend is probably getting social security suvivor benifits if she is still a minor.

  3. If the parent had money or property, you might get a portion of it after taxes. How much would depend on the laws of the country where he died, whether he wrote a will, if he had other children or if he was married at the time of death.


  4. She's probably talking about Social Security Survivor Benefits.

    If your father is an American citizen and paid into Social Security, you will be entitled to a monthly check from Social Security until you are 18.  (There are some exceptions).  Your custodian will have to present a valid death certificate to get it.

    However, you will not get the money.  It will go to the person who has custody of you for your care.

  5. She probably set that up in her will, you need to find out if your parents have a will.

  6. You can get some of their assets UNLESS they state in their will that you get nothing.
