Question:

If a person answers many questions, asks few, is top contributor, does that make him/her more important to YA?

A person needs to a few questions once and a while. Of course, asking questions leaves one open to criticism, and its so easy to criticize. Asking questions is a way to get at what you want. Maybe its only silly humor. Maybe the question goes deeper than the criticiser realizes. Maybe the question is looking for certain answers when a reader says to himself, "oh I get it." Maybe some people just employ improper etiquette when answering.

  1. Do you have a SIDS red nose on Pad or have you been drinking too much ?  Or has the Senior Citizens Gang been under attack ?

I've been given a 'top contributor ' tag because apparently I answered allot of questions in that category.  I don't think it means anything to Yahoo but it shows other Askers that I may know more about that subject so they could seek out 'better" answers.  It's rather embarrassing actually because it shows I'm on the computer allot.

I got an 'Answers Swag' on my Profile.  The note with it says "To you.  From us, because you  help make Yahoo7 Answers a great community".  I got that not long after joining; does everybody get one of those ?

  2. Doesn't mean diddly squat. That means Judas Rabi being top contributor in P&S is supposed to impress me with his "yes" or "no" or "not really" and so I will dwell on his enlightened answers.

  3. Maybe.

I think the big question everyone is looking for the answer to and nobody has the right answer for is: Why?

    Sounded good, to me, anyways.

Edit: Just plain and simple, why?

  4. Buick is right on, I have asked this question before and all it got me was a violation. Good luck man.have a star.

  5. no it does not make him important it just means for some reason they do not like to ask questions in my case the reason i do not ask questions is the last 10 or 12 i asked because they asked for am opinion and someone always reported me and it received  a violation as if i do not receive enough report answers!!!!   as for being top contributor like a blind dog -- if you answer enough questions you will receive some best answers and best answers make you a top contributor!!!

  6. Not as far as I am concerned. My opinion of such individuals are depicted in my profile if you wish to have a butchers.(Hook-Look)

  7. I think the top contri' are the ones with most best answers.

  8. I love the new look PADS, it really suits you! Being a top contributor doesn't make a person more important to me. I ask serious questions sometimes that are a search for knowledge, truth and opinion but the majority of the questions I ask are stupid, pointless and quite honestly a waste of people's time. I only ask them to give myself and other people something to do to pass the time, if TCs don't like it then they can bite me.

  9. I agree with Mamie.

  10. ...aww who cares? I just come here for the company!

  11. I think it is answering a lot of questions in a short period of time.  And if you continue to.  I had the banner, but when I went on vacation, and didn't go online for a couple weeks, it was gone.

But I didn't want it in the first place.  Makes people treat you nasty sometimes.

  12. I like your red nose. I have always wondered this myself. But it is not important to me. I like to ask and answer. This is why I am here. Some times I go to other categories like health, home and garden.Places of interest to me but I always check Seniors first and answer here before I go there.    Poppy

  13. I answer more than I ask, but I do try to ask my share. I'm more concerned PAD-D about your nose. Are you having allergy problems, or did someone poke you in the schnaz? Poor thang!! ;) Have a good evening just the same guy! :)

added note: I am at level 6 and close to 7, whatever that means, but I don't really think about the ratings. I don't care about the top contributor thing. I've been here over a year and over 15,800 pts. I've gained and I've lost...whoa just like dieting. That's scary.

  14. There are a lot of know it all people on here, that don't even have that orange stripe  ! !  When I ask a question in a certain category, and a stripe answers, I look to see if it is in that same category, and tend to take their answers as true .  I admire them when they travel around . . .that challenges their brain . . .but to cap a person down in their questions or answers  is rude and hurtful . . .Thumb that red nose Pad D and don't give them a second thought . They will get thumbs down from me !

  15. No Paddy it makes him/her a collector of points.

  16. Have you seen some of the lame questions asked here? In my book that does not qualify you for top contributor. Besides that, there is no Best Question button.

  17. Nope! They aren't that important.

  18. everyone should be equal as far as i am concerned.

  19. asking and answering are both important. Some dont have as many questions as others but that's not important. I would rather someone ask an interesting question rather than some nonsense but that' just my opinion. Others may feel differently. If you play nice though you wont ever use the thumbs down and just skip over those questions that you arent interested in

  20. No, they are not more important or knowledgeable.

    Hi Buick, I looked, I looked =)

    Hook

  21. I'm not a Top Contributor because I have answers in too many categories.

My interests are varied and so is my knowledge.

I rarely ask questions, but I think my answers are a valuable contribution (and anything that keeps me from getting bored and antsy is good for society.)

But a lot of questions get repeated...so I'd have to wonder how valuable those questions are (you can search for whether the question has been answered already.)

  22. I think Suzie S is right.  All I've ever done to earn my 'stripes' is answer a bunch of questions in the same forum and be selected as best answer often enough.  But nothing's stopping me from moving around to other forums, about which I might know nothing at all.  Yet, when I answer questions there, I'm still shown as a Top Contributor.

What has this taught me?  That anybody can be a top contributor.

  23. Are u a real clown do your car doors come off with a puff of smoke and a loud bang?  Anyway got me points so thanks 4 the question! can i hav best answer!

  24. It's based on a percentage of best answers in one category or categories.  You can be top contributor in more than one.  It doesn't get you anything from Yahoo but that orange contributors badge.  It can make you an object of harassment from some of the trolls though.  I had one for a while and constantly got reported and thumbs down.  I stopped answering questions in that category for 2 weeks and lost the badge but the trolls left me alone after that.

  25. I don't like the "grading" system...  I wonder if people just answered questions to provide an answer; would they still answer them?

-I'm not saying no one does this, I just don't know the statistics on answering questions for answers or those that really track/try for the "points"...  to those that really want to provide answers, great :)  that's all ;p
