I'm doing this for a school project in crisis management were I have to figure out the amount of money that families of 23 people who died at an explosion in a polythylene plant would get. It is part of the budget for my crisis management campaign and I have no idea. Around one million per family plus funeral costs? Thanks

  2. Nope, not that easy.

First of all, it's going to depend on the state laws - it varies by state.  SEcond, it's going to depend on the relationship to the "family".  A married man with young, dependent children, well, his survivors will get more than a single guy's parents.

Then, it depends on the age and earnings of the deceased.  Some states will pay a lump sum meant to be lost wages until they would have been 65.  Other states limit it to three years of lost wages.

So there's not an easy answer here.  Call your parent's homeowners guy, and ask them for state specific information.

  3. how good is the lawyer? 1 to 5 million is a ball park number
