If a person in Canada has analog cable when Jan 2009 rolls around and all the US stations go digital?

Will that person be able to receive those channels? or will they be SOL?

  1. The change in the US affects ONLY off-the-air TV. Cable and satellite remain as is or until those providers decide to change.


  2. If you are on cable, nothing should change.  If the cable system is carrying US channels, they will probably do what they need to do to convert the signals for their system.

    If you are in a border region and can get the signals over the air, you will need to use a converter box and an antenna or a Digital TV set with a tuner.

    Canada has also adopted the ATSC standard, however their transition isn't until 2011.
