If a person stole alot of money from a grocery store will the person go to jail if he was 16?

Lets say that he took money from the back(the money the store was supposed to deposit into the bank). If the person stole $10,000 what would happen? if he doesnt get caught and quits when people realize that money has been stolen, will he be accused of taking the money? Thanks

  1. Ten grand is a felony anywhere in the U.S.  The charge would either be Burglary or Grand Theft depending on whether he was unlawfully in the area where he stole the money....and yeah, if they didn't charge him initially, quitting when accused or when the crime is discovered is almost always a weighty clue.....heh.

  2. That's a heck of a lot of money to go missing. Of course they have to rule out all suspects, and if an employee suddenly resigns around the same time, most likely he'll get caught. It's considered misdemeanor if it's under 300 dollars, but if it's over 400 dollars it becomes an automatic felony charge. And if prosecuted, most likely he'll be looking at prison time and not your regular jail time. It would look good for the culprit if he came clean early, admit to the theft and return the money or most of it, if he hadn't blown all of it already. Throw himself on the mercy of the court more or less. Good Luck!!

  3. they wuold find it out and take you to jubee or a long time!

  4. Depending on what age your state will try you as an adult, you may end up going to prison instead of jail.  As for the punishment, thats up to a judge according to what he is legally able to do within the restricitions the state has.

If you stole $10000, I can guarantee you that you will be caught.  usually a felony starts at $300-$500...so you would be a top priority to the police

  5. Grand theft, is different from state to state, but in many states, the amount of the loss, is used as a determination whether to prosecute the person as an adult.
