  1. not at all!

  2. A picture is an impression of some meanings that it to convey, but the most often the sense of those meanings is not in the picture itself but in the mind of the spectator. It is common to realise the magic of still pictures and paintings. It is when all things come to a stand still in mind, especially due to focal concentration of eye, that things start to move, they start to assume their forms and those form then start to generate new meanings. I might not realise that when I behold an idyllic countryside scene by a romantic master painter my imagination assumes a path of its own. It is as though the stillness of the scene in my eyes has allowed my imagination to flow in a different direction. We might feel spellbound, dazed and mesmerised when we see dazzling pictures but at that time there is a lot that goes on in the mind, quietly laterally and freely of normal logical reasoning of our thoughts.

I picture therefore could appeal to the mind beyond the reaches of any words. I could appeal to us aesthetically, emotionally, intellectually and even spiritually. Then what a picture can convey to us might not be explained fully in a thousand or million words, or it might not need the explanation of a single word, as it might convey all its meaningfulness to an unsuspecting beholder without words, through sensations, and feelings.

I think a good picture has as little to do with words, as words have to do with a picture. They are two different forms of expression: where words are used for the purposes of precision, accuracy and elaborate guidance of the mind, pictures are meant to allow the mind to be free to imagine, and therefore, find its own meanings in the things its sees, as if it were in wordless conversation with them.

  4. maybe

  5. Photogenics dicate that a million dollars can devalue with the mis-timed click and shutter brake, reducing what could be considered a masterpiece to a rainfall marred chalk drawing ....

  10. That phrase doesn't say whether they are bad words or good words, so I say it's still worth a thousand words, just not good ones. ;)

  11. yes if its bad resolution, make sure the picture is taken with a good camera 8 megapixel at least!

  12. Never in the history of Y!A have so many words been used to denigrate the value of words. What an irony.

  13. nah, they were just out of stock in the word store that day...

  14. well if it is a bad picture then there should be 1000 words to say why it is a bad picture and those words should make up the words it was originally missing

  15. I don't think you can ever describe something as a 'Bad picture'. Every creation has meaning.

Also, it depends on the strength of your imagination. Some people are able to look at a canvas or painting and build up a great understanding or feelings towards it and others just see objects and colours but have no understanding.

Because one person isn't able to understand the painting this does not make the painting non-understandable.

Also, how do you work out the worth of a painting? What gives us the right to judge somebodies creation? How do we know what a painting of 1000 words actually looks like?

Anyhow, I really enjoyed answering your question. Thank you :-)
