  1. If you are looking at simple shear resultant from a transverse load on a beam or plate, then the shear stress is inversely related to the area of the component.  So, if the thickness is doubled, the cross-sectional area doubles, and the shear stress is halved.


  2. I believe that what Scott intended is the shear stress will be half and so the RESISTANCE TO SHEAR will double.
