  1. In terms of reaction time, it's equal to about a 109 mph fastball...

    43/78=60/x, 78*60/43=x, x=108.8

    It's not actually as bad as a 109 mile per hour fastball would be because you can see it much better at 78

    ccfan... are you trying to say that the speed of an object has no bearing on how easy it is to see it, if you get the same amount of time to see it?  You've never noticed that the faster something is moving, the blurrier it becomes, and the more difficult it is to see it clearly?

    You have the same exact amount of time to see it in both scenarios, but you won't be able to physically see it as well when it's moving faster


  2. 108.8 mph.  Just take 78/43 = X / 60 and solve for x

    NY no matter where you saw it from it would be the same.  It is only going 78 mph, but its only travelling 43 feet, its the exact same time it would take a baseball to go 60 ft at 108.8 mph.  thats why they are equivalent..... duh

  3. Regardless of distance (or reaction time - what a laugh), the speed is still 78 mph. Pitching machines are set to throw the ball at certain speeds. That speed is from the moment it leaves the chute and the ball will only slow down the farther it goes. Speed will not increase if the distance was 60' as opposed to 43' unless it had a booster strapped to it (ha ha).
