  1. hmm.  i think it would just be the area he blessed.. cos other parts of the world would have rather negative energy..

  2. I have always thought of the ocean as holy water.  Life bagan there in the form of stromatolites, it is primarily responsible for the worlds weather (which sustains us), and it is a great place to go when you want to shed the problems of modern life.  If a priest blessed it, it couldn't be it anymore holy to me, but who knows what it would add.

  3. lt would take alot of salt to do that ,purified salt .

  4. I am not aware of anyone blessing the ocean to be Holy Water.

However, the one similar situation that I am aware of is a Catholic priest blessing the water well at the Don Pedrito Jaramillo shrine in Falfurrias, Texas (link below) so that all water that came out would always be holy water.

The Catholic church does not officially recognize the shrine but the local priest and the thousands of people that go there believe in it.

So, that would suggest to me a yes to your question.

  5. funny, i was asking the same question of my friends in class a few days ago....

according to the priest and his followers, it would be holy. but according to maybe an atheist, it would just be a very funny joke...

technically, yes, the whole ocean would be blessed.

  6. Probably depends on tall the priest is, or how high above the ocean he is standing!

  7. No.

    And congrats, you're registering full-scale.

  8. Technically speaking-yes.

Assuming of course, that someone hasn't already done so.

  9. good question.

  10. Yep and it will be just as "real" as any other "holy water".

  11. I am not sure about that, ask a priest you know.

  12. Well yes and no.  Yes because of the "God has unlimited power concept" and no because that would remove the need for the church if anyone could just go to the beach and wash away their sin.  Of course if you go skinny dipping in that much holy water you might explode, or if you do the original sin thing in there while skinny dipping the whole world might explode.  Well maybe just the pope's head would explode! LOL

  13. No.  Because the whole concept of holy water is a bunch of baloney.

  14. No, Holy Water, depending on the size has to be blessed by a certain person. Something the size of the ocean would be have to blessed by the pope. But, holy water should indeed be freshwater.

  15. In this world, there are different people with diffrent beliefs that would have different answers to your questions. There is an early answer to your question that totally shocked me.

Personally I believe that if there would be a blessed item or place, it would probably work towards the advantage of a person depending on his FAITH. I am a believer of the saying that, "faith can move mountains."

  16. no

  17. While I agree this should've gone in 'Religion & Spirituality', what's done is done & I don't think anyone wants you to delete it :)

Having said that, I think this was a great question! It certainly caught my eye!!

& I guess as a layman on the subject I would say the ocean can certainly be blessed by a priest & used to that extent by followers. But it is a *religious* belief & act of faith. It will only 'effect' those who believe in whatever they expect to get from being blessed with holy water...ocean or otherwise!

In other words, it won't change the actual constitution &/or 'behavior' of the ocean.

  18. That is a religious concept. The answer is yes or no depending on your religious beliefs.

The above answer applies to any other religious question asked here in the Science & Mathematics category. I wish that Y!A users could figure out where to place their religion questions, perhaps maybe Societey & Culture > Religion & Spirituality?

EDIT: There was a misplaced math question in parapsychology, and I pointed that out in my answer. Also, parapsychology is INSIDE the science & math category anyway. Further, there's no reason to think the asker intentionally strayed out of the math category. But all this stands in stark contrast to intentionally not putting religious questions in the religion category. It doesn't offend me. Don't do anything because you think it offends me. It's not up to me to enforce anything and I don't intend to. But I'm pointing out the intentional misuse of Yahoo Answers.

  19. I agree with Bad Company. From a pagan perspective the ocean would already be holy water. There would be no need to bless it with any religious ritual.

  20. no, anyone can "bless" anything, it means nothing, priests are just "earning" a living by lying to the masses who are generally too stupid to acknowledge the truth.

  21. I think that the answer here entirely dependson your personal beliefs. For me? It would be a no, but that's just my opinion.

  22. i dont know....maybe...
