Question:

If a professional installer is putting down vinyl flooring....?

Would he know ahead of time he needed a roller to roll the floor and seams? The man who did mine said he's done about 30 floors, but had to go rent a roller to insure adhesion. He acted like he did me a favor by not charging me for it, but wouldn't a professional know to have this on hand before laying a vinyl floor? Just curious. Thanks.

  1. So what is the problem?

He said he has to go rent one.  Is is because you brought it to his attention or was he just having a conversation with you.

Remember he does not get paid till it is finished.

Some contractor dont carry expensive tool in there inventory because of the cost for them to maintain.  If he suggested that you pay for the roller then I have a problem, it should be covered in the cost of doing the job.

  2. 30 floors is not real experienced but still, everyone has to start somewhere. Maybe he wasn"t going to use a roller but use another method to adhere the vinyl. He probably rented the roller because you felt like you weren"t getting a pro job without one. It"s frustrating working for people who think they know as much as the installer. I noticed you didn"t complain about the job. Were you satisfied with it? He rented the roller to appease you when it may well not have been necessary. 31 yrs. exp. but then, what do I know?

  3. Yes, he would.  He screwed up and was trying to feed you a line of bull....

  4. Absolutely.

You are correct--he should have known and prepared for it.

He sounds unprofessional to me.  But 30 floors isn't a lot for a pro.
