If a professor says in front of 5 students that another prof's wife is ugly, what would you do?

Realize that this prof handles situations immaturely and don't divulge anything about *your* private life to him.

Other than that...nothing.  Unfortunately, profs are allowed to be immature and snarky.

believe it or not, this kind of behavior is displayed every day in the work world. i am a teacher myself, and i hear these kinds of comments from all different teachers AND my principal. i have learned two things from this:

1. don't repeat it to anyone else. it's better to stay away from all the gossip.

2. learn who can be trusted, and only share personal information with those people. that way, you can avoid backstabbing issues.

the best thing is just to go to class/work, and just be there for learning purposes. be neutral and objective. that way, you won't have people talking about you, and you can avoid having other people angry with you because you divulged damaging information about them!
