Long story short I was deployed in the Army as an Infantrymen, seen and did a lot of things most could not imagine. I am a decerated veteren including a purple heart, but have been diagnosed with PTSD. I handled myself very well in extremely stressfull situations and protected the lives of my fellow countrymen. I want to be a police officer more than anything in this worl and fear this will effect my chances greatly. I feel I can pass any psych test easily. My PTSD is only memories of lost brothers I do not snap or have flashbacks or whatever people think about PTSD. Can someone with some background or experience in this situation please help..

  1. Have the condition rechecked and then you'll see where

you are atm. A general PTSD diagnosis doesn't mean

you have bad chances in general. It depends on what

exactly was diagnosed in detail, how you reacted and

what the problem really is or was.

  2. Who exactly diagnosed you with this? Are you in therapy and did they prescribe you anything? If the army gave you this diagnosis but you were not recommended any treatment then I would say you are ok. Just remember to be honest as you will have to take a lie detector test. Good luck.

  3. if only this country required john mccain to take this test before he is except as a candidate for preisdent becaus yes i think PTSD  could effect you on the job .

  4. The symptoms you describe are not PTSD. Memories are not part of the diagnosis. the criteria for PTSD include flashbacks, hypervigilance, extreme emotional reaction when confronted with memories or similar situations.  If what you describe is accurate, then you do not have PTSD. You have had trauma but are not controlled by it at this time

Now that I read what you added later, probably it will keep you from being a cop. If you are being compensated for it.  But you do not seem to have the symptoms

  5. PTSD means you have recurring reexperiences of the event like flashbacks or nightmares. If you don't have them then you don't have PTSD. Perhaps you should get a second opinion

  6. Maybe,

they'd choose someone who didn't have that condition over you.
