A cake recipe asks for 4 tinned pear halves cut into small chunks, do you think i could use fresh pairs and peel and cut them up and they would still be soft enough, or I must use tin pears...?

  1. use 2 fresh very ripe soft pears. If they aren't soft, then put then cut up in the microwave with a little water and cook them about 2 to 3 minutes. add time just until they soften up.

  2. Sounds okay, go for it.  You can always saute them first to soften them a little.

  3. Yes.

  4. I would only use them if the fresh pairs are very, very ripe otherwise they will be too hard even after baking.

  5. yes, but I would chop them pretty small.

  6. If you're gonna be baking the cake with the pears in, then yeah, you can use fresh, no problem.

Heck, even uncooked, ripe fresh pears are soft enough.

  7. You will need to soften the fresh pears if they are really crispy.

If they are ripe, soft and juicy I would just peel and chop.

  8. Yes. Just add corn syrup (1/4 cup per can). If they are firm, cook them down in boiling water before adding. You dont want them mushy, just soft.
